Inside a Continental Summit: Notes from the Room

What actually happens between the last briefing note and the moment the gavel lands — and why protocol discipline beats production polish.

Uncategorized 1 min read

There is a version of a summit that exists in the press release. It is not the version that consumes your production team for eleven weeks.

The room decides the format

Before a single line of stage design is drawn, the protocol team maps the room: sightlines for heads of state, the order of precedence, the interpreter booths, the press riser, and the four minutes between the anthem and the first handshake. Every later decision is downstream of that map.

Technical as diplomacy

A dropped feed or a dead microphone in front of a head of state is not an engineering problem — it is a diplomatic one. Redundancy is a protocol requirement, not a line item.
